Has anyone had trouble fitting a K&N panel filter into the stock air box? its the K&N N33-2041-1 and apparently fits my car, 2003 stock air box however I just doesn't seem to fit, almost too big? now granted I'm attempting this with failing light after work but I've had 3 go's now. I think I'm just being clumsy but just wanted some advice. Many thanks

They're hard get to fit and not worth the effort tbh. Good quality paper filter every 12months

Call the midlife!

As Scotte says, standard paper is more effective but if you're keen to use the K&N regardless try pulling the spring clip over with a strongish cable tie.
I had to with one I used as my fingers were starting to fall off.
Put it round loosely, get the clip most of the way there and then pull the cable tie tighter, it SHOULD then pull the clip into place.
I cut the ties off straight after as they're only to give help with the pull.
60% of the time it works everytime...

Do these sort of panel filters give a bit of an induction noise, like cone filters?

Nah, at least I don't believe so.

They probably let more air in, but it might be dirtier.

Mine came with a K&N panel. One advantage is that it can be cleaned and re-used. Probably doesn't save much money-wise (as costs more than the paper one) but it does mean one less thing to acquire every service-time (assuming you have the cleaning kit).

Saying that, had mine come with a stock filter, I'd probably replace it with a stock (or aftermarket-stock-like) filter.

It's your 2s way of saying stick with stock.

I think the standard paper filter flows all the air the engine can use, so a k&n or even no filter will not let more air in.

As far as I am aware the 2zz uses the same filter and makes another 50bhp so there is no restriction and no point in mucking about with an oily filter. Been there and done it myself. Gained nothing.

Can't remember having too much trouble fitting mine, although it does need to come out for a clean soon.

Can guarantee it will now be awkward to get back in!
