IAT temps on turbo

Wondering if the wealth of knowledge on here has any information on intake air temps and effect on turbo.

My IATs usually sit around 5deg over ambient while moving but in the turbo, it was a steady 41deg and even up to 51 at motorway and 60mph speeds. That seems really high. That's pre-turbo as well.

Is that something worth addressing or does it not really matter until you get to 80deg +?

I know temperature definitely makes a difference, but where does it start to cause issues?

Even to me that seems very high. Is that IC or charge cooler?

I know a friend of mine with an ACT cooler is getting around low 30s for town driving.

Edit* will check mine today albeit not entirely as accurate yet.

My last turbo, used to run around 30 to 40 on really hot days, post turbo, sometimes as far as 50 when really pushing, but I did have a large chargecooler.  The air filter was an enclosed unit inside the offside wheel arch with an air feed into the cavity from below.

Hmm. OK so even on a hot day yesterday (22deg?) I shouldn't be seeing 41deg pre-turbo.
No idea what it is post-turbo/intercooler. I need to get the IAT plumbed in.

Seeing as this is measured right after the filter, which sits behind the passenger rear light, I'm not sure what more to do.
Granted, the MAF sits about 10cm from the exhaust. Maybe some good heat-reflective tape?

Any recommendations?

This is the temp sensor that's part of the MAF, right?
Very surprising it can heat the air 20 degrees in the short time it is flowing to that point.
It would be interesting to see what difference opening the engine cover makes - maybe there's heat soak through the MAF body.
Also - what does it read when the engine is cold?

shnazzle

Yeah that's just the IAT in the MAF. So I have no idea what the temperature is at the throttle body

My Sp240 got so hot it melted supposedly heat proof glue.
I am surprised it's so far above ambient pre turbo post turbo it's going to be mental.
It's not exactly got the biggest intercooler.

That's my worry. And I might be looking for solutions in all the wrong places but the car does go from running nicely to barely being able to keep idle steady.
People on last year's Northumberland run witnessed this.

You could fabricate a metal heat shield with some insulation glued to it.  That would be much more effective than tape.  You'll have to get a little ingenious as to attaching it -

I'd make it deep enough to encourage vertical airflow between the intake and exhaust.
