Hi,

I'm currently running a SP240 and I love it.. I completed a full day at Bedford on Monday and smoked some much more powerful and expensive motors... However, I would like to have the engine set up correctly and don't want to let anyone who doesn't know their way around a modified MR2 near it.. any Suggestions in the East Midlands?

Thanks

Rob

All original SP240s were mapped at Redline in Essex. I know that's not East-midlands, but it's only a few hours away and well worth it I'd say
So they'd be your best bet as they know the setup inside/out.

The SP240 was put together by Matt from Mattperformance (formerly Silverstone Performance...hence SP). He's on here but has closed shop. He is a stand-up guy though so if you need any info he's prob your best bet.

Can i ask what you think is wrong?
I would recomend fitting a boost gauge if you dont have one.
Also oil temp and pressure are useful.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I have spoken to Matt, and he told me he was not working on them anymore  s:-( :-( s:-(  ...

There isn't anything wrong, but I could do with a health check and it does occasionally have little flat spot before the boost comes on, but that could be the lack of 99 ron here and making do with 97. It didn't seem to be there at Bedford when I filled it with V power. I want a boost gauge and oil tem and they are on my list I just need to find the right ones

That flat spot happens to mine too. You didnt notice it because you were canning the  sshit shit sshit  out of it.
Depending on when it was mapped 97 may have been all that was available.
Tesco was the only 99 available widely until shell upped to v power nitro recently.

It was being canned slightly...  :-) :-) :-)  I have to say I am really impressed with the way it goes and quite a few Caymans and M's were a little shocked as well...
I'm making a point of only running it on Tesco and V Power and I guess I will have to live with the flat spot. Its not so bad just me being picky I guess.

The SP240 is the first time I've driven a car with a turbo that doesn't belong on the car and it is a bit odd. A car that comes with a turbo stock handles it seamlessly. The ECU is mapped for it, no need for boost protection and all sorts like that. Obviously once you start mapping them it's different.
But the SP240 to me feels like you're driving the turbo, with a foreign engine attached to it.

Clearly the best solution is full standalone ECU with knock/map/wideband etc and full custom map for your car to make it fully smooth. But I'm quite convinced that no piggyback can give you that "this belongs here" feel.

Having said all that....I'm so happy with it hahaha  s:D :D s:D  God it goes.

Same here, first with a non standard turbo.. Its not bad, and better than I expected it to be in terms of delivery, except for the slight flat spot. Yes your right is certainly does go. How far can they be taken before they become very unreliable?  s:bowdown:  s:bowdown:

Apparently 250lb/ft torque is the magical limit... so I've read on here. So not so much HP but torque. I think the SP240 sits at around 215lb/ft?

Le mans SP240 was mapped at 220lb.
Not sure about my torque but bhp is 235 which is about right.
240-250 is the max torque for the box.
SP did do a 265 bhp kit but it is a very different setup.
I think Stupink runs 293 on stock engine internals but that could be pushing your luck.

Nothing more to be gained from upgrades tbh.
Better to sell on and build your own custom setup.
For me that would be a charge cooled Garrett GTX28 or a  Borg Warner EFR 6258 with a full stand alone ecu from Link or Syvecs.

Cheaper ways to go for sure.
Which is why i probably wont do it.

Its enough as is to be honest as I want reliability and daily (well weekends) use so it would be pointless pushing it too much. The engine is sweet and off boost its quite economical.

I'm going to improve the handling with a strut brace as the underside is fitted with a bracing kit. I may also improve the coil overs but to be honest it feels really good with the ones that are on it.. Mind you a dry track and some more pressure may change my view...

Cant have enough bracing especially if you have coilovers.
Also good tryes make a world of difference.

I'm running ADO8R's and I can imagine it struggling in the dry.
