Could be roof up roof down?
Hardtop was optional extra may not even have been tested.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Thanks mate, so looking at about 3mph extra with hard top. Not a great difference. thought it would be more tbh

I know for a 'fact' that putting the headlights up knocked 5Mph off the top speed of the MK1. It also made the front end go light!

I have a hard top which I use in winter only looks great and I love the detail scoop that fits matches the bonnet and boot but i couldn't imagine chopping out the soft top and running the car in a british summer. My mum being the ever practical women had three kids and a Triumph Spitfire with a removable hard top but no soft top. I can count on one hand how many times she unbolted the hard top and that was when we didn't have weird climate change weather so no way is that practical. TBH how much extra performance would you get anyway, why not stick a turbo in it or remap the ECU or throw out the spare wheel/jack and all the crap in the glove box and go on a diet, but don't rip out the roof. Just imagine great track day the heavens open up and there you are drenched and more importantly so is the car and the electrics, plus when you come to resell it if ever, who will buy it? Your choice and your money but !!!
MR2 Chilli Red, final 300 production run for U.K. Hard Top, TTE twin pipes, Alacantra leather. Pre registered, no mods but  Brilliant! Favourite quote "I don\'t expect to know what is around the corner but I do at least expect to know where the corner is"

That's what the V6, lightweight wheels, and lightweight parts are for. I'm working on the diet, but that's a bit more difficult  s:) :) s:)

Regards selling, the current roof needs to go anyway, if I ever came to sell, it's not difficult to put a decent one in.

I do get the point though, it's very valid, and I think I will keep and eye out for a cheap softtop to replace it when it comes up  s:) :) s:)  that way, for track days I can have leave the hardtop at home.
