So the MR2 passed its most recent MOT which was great news.

The bad is that the subframe probably would have failed if the testor had a longer poky stick to get past the nappy  ;D

Has anyone picked one up for a decent price recently? I've previously spoken with TCB who had them in stock but not any more apparently. The MR2 Ben site has them up but not so cheap...

Sorry can't help with locating a subframe other than suggest a new one would have more life in it than one from a breaker.
My guess is that a new subframe from MR2 Ben cost a lot less ( at the moment) than a used hard top from eBay.
Be aware that there are two sub frame types and they are not interchangeable, one suits the PFL cars and the other the FL cars.

PS. New at £374.95 on eBay

Hi Nick, long time no hear - pleased you still have your 2 which is more than you can say for me ;)  Hopefully, you'll find a replacement subframe soon.

Best to get the correct one either way.
But, I tend to recall an FL sub will work with a PFL car. But not vice versa.

You'd be surprised what can be patch-welded by a good fabricator, and be as good as!

They don't all have to be thrown away.

I wish that were the case but once I've persuaded these bolts out, there ain't going to be much to weld to 😂

Glup! Better finding a good condition secondhand one until TCB has them back in stock assuming the price has not gone through the roof.

There is no guarantee this are actually still in production.

One of FB today

I struggle to 'do' Facebook at the best of times so i appreciate the heads up. Sadly it was a PFL.

From my background reading it seems like bushes and bolts will be needed, but if taking off the arms with the subframe am I likely to be able to save the arms? They don't look to be too cheap or easy to get hold of either.

tets

I've done all exactly that job - new subframe and superpro bushes in the rear arms.

2 arms were absolute tw@'s to get out - I snapped a camber bolt and had to cut the arm out of the subframe as the bolt had welded itself to the inner bush sleeve - fortunately the bushes are really easy to change so once out I just drilled the lot out - superpro bushes are a 2 minute job to fit

To undo some of the bolts I had to use a strongbar with 2ft scaffold on the end - I had to move the nuts as opposed to the bolts on 2 arms as access was limited on stands. Would have been a lot easier on a ramp

Have a look on my readers rides as there are a few pics (if they are still showing)
