Hi everyone I've had a recent mot and it said my front wheel bearings are on there way out,I looked on a few car part places most are showing the bearing in a hub but some are showing a bearing separate I'm not sure if you can just replace the bearing or is it the hub needs changing and is it an awkward job thanks

Bossworld

Better off just changing the hub IMO, not mega money for a pattern part

Ok thanks I think I will do that cheers

I have not had to do it, but, my understanding is, you cannot, or, it is a whole heap of work. £/time = replace the hub.

Mr2paul

I agree, to a point tho. I've changed hubs, which is easy but lastly iv changed bearings but since I couldn't obviously get to work to use the press I walked to local garage and they charged £10 to press in new bearings. The garage wanted £150/ hub fitted which if I remember was £70 diy for a hub to do myself, hence changing the bearing only. If you have a second car to use and want satisfaction of saving a lot of money ? But I can understand the arguments forwarded by Ardent,  (406 coupe btw )

TCB seem to offer 4 options;

(This will be per hub + a bit of delivery).

If your brake disc stone guards are rotten, this will be the time to change them when doing the hubs.

I think they are stone traps rather than guards as looking at these when folk have strange noises seems to be other forum stock answer ? Also there was a big debate for having them on to improve braking -- this was completely dismissed by the racing guys ! Pays yr money etc etc but the end consensus was if they are ok, leave on , but if rotten, take off, just saying that's all n no offence intended. It's strange how even other coupe forums have their recommendations so I'm learning a great deal here, although some MAJOR coupe must do's from other places do not get a mention here.

Probably fit 18" wheels 245 rubber and big brake kit.
