Rattling noise

Went for a good run tonight and despite well securing my cat pipe heat shield I am still hearing a rattling noise particularly on the overrun. It stops as soon as I put my foot on the clutch. I've had a good route around and couldn't find anything else loose.

One thought is that it could be coming from the clutch itself. I have a squeaky clutch fork pivot that needs lubricating so wondered if it could be related? Another thought was baffles in the exhaust but it doesn't seem to get any louder with revs. Perhaps the timing chain? I'm not sure how to narrow it down.

Covered the usual suspects.
But cannot explain why putting foot on clutch would stop a rattle in the baffles etc.
Rattle or a squeak? A dry bearing?
Pulleys are notorious, but again. Do not see foot on clutch changing anything.

Does it do it when in neutral and being revved a little?

In neutral there is a little noise but barely noticeable. It is most pronounced at around 2-3000 revs and particularly in gear with foot off the throttle decelerating or going down hill. Its not loud but clearly noticeable.

I will have a good look/listen to it today. It has probably been there a while but hidden under all the other noises my car has been making!!

Probably a small exhaust leak that opens when the system is stressed by the engine moving.

I've got one!  I'll be taking my exhaust system apart next week to track it down....

They do sound quite 'mechanical'.

Sounds like a distinct possibility. They had a lot of problems getting my manifold to fit the cat pipe. I was wondering if part of the exhaust or shield was touching the chassis as the engine moved.

Took my Toyosports manifold off and unwrapped it.  Quite a decent crack in one pipe.  Hey- it's been on there a long time, since before I got the car.

Gaskets a bit tired too.

Tig it up, weld on extra support bracket.

Re-wrap. New gaskets. Good for another few years.
