Hi, Guys

I've just replaced the O-ring on my Tensioner using the guide in the "How to" section on this Forum.

I do have a couple of questions, however; I take it you replace the tensioner with the hook uppermost?

Also, when rotating the engine by hand, should you hear just a loud click or a series of clicks similar to using a ratchet?

Just thought I'd check with you guys before starting the engine!

Hi, PaulJ

Yep, that was the link I followed.

Still only heard the ratchet type noise though.

Removed the tensioner to check (for justin); it HAD reset itself.

Upon replacing and turning the engine by hand again, I again heard the ratchet type noise again.

PerhapsI wasn't turning the engine quickly enough for the tensioner to reset with a single click?

Carolyn

Very often, it's a couple of clicks.  The first one is the release, the next one (or two) is the tensioner taking slack out as the chain turns.

The tensioner will only go in one way round.  If it goes in, you've got it right!

Well done, btw.

Aux belt tomorrow!

Then time to wash off all the crud underneath / on the engine.

(Special thanks to whoever used a LOAD of silicone sealer around the tensioner baseplate; it was even on the VERY flat O ring!)

Its probably because the Toyota OEM O ring isn't fit for long term use, its why you replace it with Viton rather than an OEM O ring else it will just start leaking again! You should see the back of my engine with the amount of oil there is!

I have a spare Viton oil seal if anyone wants it!

Would I be able to take you up on that offer aswell Carolyn?

I have just bought a new tensioner and was going to use the OEM one.

On a side note, Could I PM you about a different thing regarding a fuel rail I think you modified for a turbo build?

thanks
Steve
