Rear hub removal

Could anyone throw me some advice please?

I have to remove my rear hub so I can get a garage to press in a new bearing, the problem is that the drive shaft locking ring is well and truly chewed up and there is just not enough protruding to grasp onto to turn.

Anyone else been in this position and if so what was the solution?
