Fuel filler door cable broken

The cable or the lock/shaft of my fuel filler door has broken off and it won't stay shut.

Any tips for replacing the cable? Best done from inside the car or taking the filler neck plastic surround out?

The little plastic cylinder that pops out of the holder isn't there hence why I think it's probably the cable that's come out.

Don't want to take the whole interior out if I can avoid it.

Well what a ball ache that was!

Undo the rear quarter to give some space, jack up NSR, undo wheel arch liner and pop the stopper back in it's housing.
