Hi
What is a markii pipe and what does it do?. I want to increase the power a little. What about maf ( I have cleaned it and resett the ecu disconnected the battery) but was thinking is there a mod there to make a slight increase. It does a little bit better doing this or might be me but it makes me feel better.
Cheers stanyman

It's a replacement air inlet duct, to make more noise and less power.

I like the sound of more noise but less power I would like a little more power really.

Tbh there isn't much power to be released in these cars without spending a considerable sum of money.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Is it dyno proven that this mod looses power?

I'm not entirely sure jonbill isn't mixing the pipe up with an induction kit/cone filter set up. (If he's not then I look a plum and apologise).
The markii pipe is basically a stainless pipe that replaces the plastic transfer pipe from the side vent assembly to the standard airbox.
The standard pipe narrows and possibly restricts the airflow to the box, the markii pipe is wider/same bore all along so allows a better flow of air.
No noticeable increase in noise and probably very little in bhp but there are proven gains in throttle response.

Ignore the lawnmower in the background, other than fitting the engine on the 2 it won't increase performance, just noise!
But that's a markii pipe.

For the record, it's a Markiii  pipe and by keeping the pipe diameter the same along its length, it probably shifts the torque curve up the rev range a bit. It's a knock off of an expensive Jap tuning firm alloy design which claimed a performance increase. I think the taper in the original design was to help low range torque but this is not proven.
Ex.MR2 SMT sadly missed.

I wonder who owns the record for the most times bought and sold? I know I'm at least the third owner of the one on mine.

What ever the exact reason, MrTs R+D section decided that was best. Narrowing generally increase flow speed.
However, my biggest question is. The air is metered staight out the other side of the air box by the MAF.
Which feeds info to the ecu etc etc which controls the fuel delivered etc etc.
The 2zz uses the same filter and air box so lack of flow is clearly not an issue.

Not quite the same airbox. It's a bit fancier on the 2zz. But yes, flow is not an issue. Everything from the filter itself onwards is clearly capable of 190ish hp
...neutiquam erro.

I just ran some brake ducting from the side pipe to the airbox replacing the rigid pipe all together, than removed the stock airbox all together and am now running a filter behind the battery.
